Our Academics

Our Academics

Martin Luther King, Jr. once said “The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education.” at Three Rivers Academy we strongly value character education and have made it an integral part of our academic program. As a school, we recognize that academic success alone is not enough to prepare students for the challenges of the future, and therefore, we place a great emphasis on building students’ character and instilling in them important values such as honesty, responsibility, respect, and empathy. Character education is integrated into all aspects of the school’s curriculum, from classroom instruction to co-curricular activities, and students are encouraged to practice and apply these values in their daily lives. By prioritizing character education alongside academics, Three Rivers Academy aims to develop well-rounded individuals who are not only academically proficient but also possess strong moral character and social skills that will enable them to thrive in all areas of life.

  • Character Education

Project Based Learning

While a number of schools in Kenya offer the Cambridge Curriculum that is recognized by universities world-wide, Three Rivers Academy will stand out for the way it teaches this internationally respected curriculum. Three Rivers Academy will use Project-based Learning and Individualized Learning where students learn by doing, take ownership and self-responsibility for their learning, include their interests in their learning, and are able to work at the pace best for them.

Students will be in wildlife conservancies learning wildlife biology, in communities around Mt. Kenya doing community service and conservation projects like tree planting, on adventure trips to Kenya’s National Parks, and will visit different types of businesses and organizations.

We Prepare Every Student For Their Professional Life

Three Rivers Academy will offer the Cambridge Lower Secondary curriculum in Grades 7, 8 and 9. Cambridge IGCSE will be offered in Grades 10 and 11 where students can choose a rigorous two-year path to prepare for A Levels, or a challenging two-year vocational path that mixes academic subjects with vocational training. In Grades 12 and 13, university bound students will take A Levels and vocationally focused students will take vocational training at Three Rivers Academy or at other vocational training schools.

There are too many unemployed or underemployed university graduates. For many students, choosing a vocational path will lead to good jobs and opportunities. Three Rivers Academy will prepare students for what they want and are ready for; either university or vocational training. Both lead to success and satisfaction.

Character Development

The primary consideration for admitting students to Three Rivers Academy is their character.  We talk to their primary school teachers and other referees to see who has integrity, is a hard worker, is kind, and takes responsibility, as well as who is a good student who cares about their studies.

Grades are a secondary consideration to character.  Students should want to be in an environment that recognizes them as the perfect children of God who has given everyone unlimited ability and goodness.

Co- Curricular Activities

All our teams train during the week. We try to widen our Curriculum at school as much as possible so that every child not only gets a wide range of abilities but also they have the chance to find the sport that they really like and hopefully engage in it outside of school with much greater intensity.

Co-Curricular

Three Rivers Academy believes that many activities in addition to academic studies are important to develop interests and skills in students. Art, music, athletics, student clubs, trips and other co-curricular activities will play an important role at the Three Rivers Academy.

Academics

Three Rivers Academy students are taught to take responsibility and ownership for their own learning. Too many Kenyan students become passive learners who wait for the teacher to tell them what to do. At Three Rivers Academy, teachers are mentors and guides that help students find their own solutions and answers. Students develop curiosity and become active learners who take initiative.
